Hi everyone,

I was moved to Windsor recently and was excited to see a fish and chip shop that had gluten free options. The fish and chips were delicious but afterwards I felt very sick and knew that I had definitely come across some gluten. I went in and spoke to the manager and was told 'oh I know what would have happened, the fish was probably coated in the wrong batter, that can happen sometimes. Or they might have grabbed the wrong soy sauce bottle (i had mine on rice and asian greens). They seem to have no concept of the cross contamination issue and just wave it off like it's not a big issue. I wouldn't be surprised if they had no idea about Coeliac disease at all and were just jumping on the Gluten free bandwagon like a lot of places seem to be doing. I have been told since then that they do cook the gluten free fish and chips and the others, all in the same fryer. I don't think I will be going back there as I would be too nervous! On the other hand Pizza Piazza on Chapel St is great! They are very careful and I have only had lovely food there.

Hi....

Just came across this blog posting today and thought I'd let you know that I'm Coeliac and I eat at Hooked regularly... often indulging in their gluten free battered options - and I can assure you they are definately cooked in different oil to the regular stuff!!! I'm really particular about it and wouldn't eat it if there was risk of contamination. So you might want to amend the edit on the end of this posting. Cheers.
